Lighted Fan Duct

Shopping list:

  • 5mm LED lights x7 (white)
  • 4700 ohm 0.25 watt resistors x 7
  • wire (about 2 yards)
  • 3d pen (optional)

My printer is still new, and I am still fine-tuning it. I had to drill out the LED holes to get them to the proper size. Not sure if you will have to. I also had to file the connection to the fan to make it fit.

Follow the schematic for wiring (courtesy of http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz) There is a 4700 ohm resistor attached to the anode (-) of each LED. They are all then connected in parallel, with each tier consisting of one LED and one resistor. I used bare wire and heat shrink tubing (red) for the positive lead, and put more heat shrink tubing (black) over the resistors and negative leads.

I used the 3d pen to secure the LEDs and the wires to the fan duct. You could use something else, I suppose, if you don't have a 3d pen. I got mine for $20 on wish.com. The same one is available on Amazon for $30.

Once complete, the positive cable connects to one of the V+ terminals on the power supply, the negative cable connects to one of the COM terminals.
