MMU Under Shelf Auto Rewind Spool Holders

Update Added new v3 Spool and Spring see here for details https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3248031

I also added the Black bumper / spacers called "Spool Holder Bracket Spacer Guide.stl" these can be clipped on the the side brackets and stop spools getting too close to the edge.

Inspired by Vincent Groenhuis Auto Rewind Spool https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3200204 I decided I needed to make under the shelf / Hanging Spool Holders for these.

This uses the metal rods and 608 bearings from the Prusa MMU spool holders.

I added a square end stop to the spring design from Vincent Groenhuis and then made some Hangers for them.

The Hangers print flat so easy to print and I printed mine in PLA. You need 1x Base and 2x Side Brackets for each set. The side brackets press firmly in to the base and you can then screw them up as one piece. Liking to make things easy for myself I made the base units slot together with tabs, so once you have your first holder in place the others just push up and slot in to the existing one and you can then screw that in to place as well. Less measuring :)

For the Auto Rewind spool you will need

1x Wide Hub https://www.thingiverse.com/download:5570849 from Vincent Groenhuis original design.
1x Spring Remake https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3248031 from my Remake of the Spring which includes the square end stop.

Print the Spring at least in PETG I found PLA lost a bit of its springiness over time (PETG still going well). I also printed the Wide Hub in PETG so they were the same once glued together.

To assemble the Spool push one metal rod in to the square end stop through the spring, these are a tight fit so make sure you push it to the end.

Push a 608 bearing in to each side of the Wide Hub.

Then glue the Spring to the Wide Hub. Make sure you only glue around the edge of the Hub as the rest of the spring needs to be able to move. As the spring is already on the metal rod you can slide this rod through both bearings in the Hub and this will help you glue the spring on centred.

Once together you can push on the round Spool End Cap to the other side to keep it all together, again this is a snug fit so push it on all the way. To be sure you have this pushed all the way on the final length of the whole shaft including end stops should be 22mm - 23mm long.

I have included pictures so this should help.

I also made a through the shelf PTFE tube holder / feeder which takes the M10 PTFE tube connectors. see M10 Feeder Mount in the files section. You will need to purchase an M10 connector for each one.

Most of my Filament Spools work fine with this setup and stay centred on the spool, but I did find the odd spool would wonder slowly to the side of the spool. So I also made a clip on guide "Spool Holder Bracket Spacer Guide" in the files section. This pushes on to the Side Brackets (See photos its the black part on the side brackets) and it stops a Spool reel from wondering to far to the edge.

I found the Prusa Spool holders to be very fiddly to use, feeding the filament through holes and elbows etc. then only having a few inchs to be able to feed the filament all the way to the MMU. With my new setup changing spools is very quick with load of space to feed / push filament down the tubes.

I hope you find this useful and please post a make to Thingiverse if you do make one.

FYI The Green Spool Holder in the pictures was PLA and you can see the spring lost a little springiness. The Black ones are PETG :)

Charmander

testing:

This is remixed from classygoat's model.

I was unable to get a good print with charmander laying on his sides from original stl.

only difference is that i have the charmander standing up and reduced size to around 40mm high. i find it much easier and cleaner to print.

3 shells. no infill. uses some supports. (high five hand and chin did not need support). raft recommended but not needed.

the one to the left of the first picture is the original file print shrunk down and attempted to print on its side. the other two are after i made adjustments.

cheers

I created this little guy after watching final space, hope you enjoy (chookity!)

It's currently a work in progress and the first 3d modelling I've ever done.

EDIT - 15/08/2018 ----------

I have added a v2 which has pupils

I've also uploaded a picture of my print (based on the v1), watch your retraction settings for the antenna and beware that they are very fragile!

Glad it stands up by itself though! :)

EDIT - 15/08/2018 part 2 ----------

added a higher res stl, not tried printing this one but let me know if it works better

EDIT - 16/08/2018 -----------

uploaded a picture of my hi-res make

Comme me le soulignait Shiaic1, il pourrait être intéressant de donner un réel talisman plutôt qu'une carte...
Voici le talisman de Lore en essai, ,et si le résultat est satisfaisant en terme de jeu peut-être tenterai-je les autres..
Bonne impression!!

As Shiaic1 said, it could be interesting to give a real talisman instead of a card ...
Here is a first try with the Talisman of Lore, and perhaps if it's interesting in game, i'll make more
Have fun

Print your own d20!

If you print each face individually and connect them, you don't have to worry about supports or overhangs.

Roughly double the size of a Chessex d20, but it really works!

I made this in Sketchup and exported it to STL with this tool: https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchup-stl

Double Ocarina

I remixed this from two ocarina's the smaller ocarina was a remix of the bigger ocarina. I didn't edit any of the internal cavity and tried to keep the holes the same depth so not to change the pitch of the notes. Basically just put the two together and made a new outer shell for it. Its not perfect and I might revise it later if I print another any time soon.

Smoothed 12 hole soprano ocarina

I smoothed the outer surface of the ocarina in Blender's sculpt mode, while leaving the inner surface and all the holes untouched. This means that it will work just as well as the original one while looking a bit nicer. The smoothing gave it a bit of an uneven look whitch reminded me of an actual clay ocarina.

I decided to add my own Blender files as well, for anyone who wants to do further modifications. It is also subdividable now.

After my latest design (All In One 3D printer test) got really popular, I've decided to make new, better, smaller and more detailed design.

I've literally started again from scratch, with few things in head - make it smaller, more detailed, and low on material. I think that I've done pretty good job!

!PRINT THIS WITHOUT SUPPORTS AND WITH 100% INFILL!

I hope that you'll like this design, don't forget to share your own 3D printout!

As always, feel free to tip me :-).

gCreate Official Rocket Ship

Update December 2017
We added a new cool textured flame and updated our thumbnail. The rocket was printed in Polyalchemy Silver Elixir PLA.

Update:
We updated the model. It is now hollow and should have no errors in Simplify3D and it has flat bridges under the curved fins for easier printing on some machines. We also removed the center booster support so you must add support below the main nozzle or the print will fail.

To celebrate the launch of our new site we are uploading our official rocket complete with a smoke stand. This rocket comes in 4 parts and each one slips together.
We have printed this in various filaments including Colorfabb PLA, colorfabb bronzefill, woodfill, ABS, glow in the dark and several others. The bronzefill is by far our favorite.
Check out our site for more free models http://www.gcreate.com
The model was created in 3ds Max 2011 but due to the export/unit issues the model is scaled up by 2540%. You may have to scale down by .0393701 depending by your slicer software. In slic3r 1.1.6 it works fine.

An interesting note, the smoke is actually a particle simulation in 3ds Max which i used meta particles and then heavily modified as a mesh.

steampunk octopus

This is a remix suggested by Azurewren based off of the octopedes from McGybeer and Ellindsey.

I would recommend to scale the .stl to ~150% which worked best for me thus far. Tho keep in mind that:
a) for the head you'll need support, for the tentacles not necessarily (however if you print them with support the removal takes usually more than an hour)
b) I could'nt get the bottom perfectly flat, if you scale it up, take a look at the first few layers

happy printing
