Heat Set Insert Press

In this project we're building a rig for installing heat set inserts. Use 3D printed parts and hardware to build a solder rig with smooth linear roller action! Make perfectly straight inserts with precision using a tip for installing inserts.

Learn guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/heat-set-rig/

When working with 3D printed parts, a press can help you install inserts. This holds a soldering iron vertically and allows you to press down, perfectly straight. The tip of the iron heats up the brass and softens the plastic. Pressing down pushes the insert into the part and once it cools down, it’s locked in place. This could be handy for folks doing a small production run or if you're looking for a tool to make this easier.

This rig makes installing inserts feel like pressing a hot knife through butter – The linear motion on this build feels smooth. This is definitely over engineered and we spent way too much time on it but we think folks will find it useful. The rig is modular and uses common hardware – The 3d printed parts can be remixed and modified to work with other components. There’s a learn guide for this project so folks can build their own.

Holding the iron straight seems simple enough and works fine most of the time but the conical shape of a regular soldering iron tip can catch the insert and accidentally pull it out while melting the plastic – And that can sometimes ruin parts.

COS - the Container Ship

A container or cargo ship belongs to every bath tub fleet. I once drew a small and a particularly large version. The swimming characteristics are still very good even when fully loaded.

Have fun printing :)

Even if my boats are not benchmarks (benchy), you can use them for quality control.

---Have a look at EMMA, the big sister of COS---

Support me :)

Although it is a lot of fun to draw boats and bring them to life, it takes a lot of time to research and draw. Especially the 1:1000 scale models are very time-consuming. So I wanted to see if there are any dear enthusiasts among you who appreciate my work and support me a little bit. Thank you for your help :)

The Snowflake Machine uses random numbers, mathematical algorithms, computer code, and SCIENCE to create well over a billion unique and beautiful snowflakes.

But all you have to do is click a button! Press "Open in Customizer" to get started. See the Snowflake Machine post on Hacktastic for instructions and design tips.

If you 3D print a snowflake from this model, please take a photo of your print and then click the "I Made One" button to upload your picture, so we can all see it!

Don't have a printer, or want something fancy?
Custom snowflake ornaments made with the Snowflake Machine are now available at the geekhaus Shapeways store:

Here is another 3D model to print. This is an open differential from a toyota pickup but functions the same way as almost all other open differentials found in other cars. Functions just like the real thing. I you have already printed all my other things then you can just hook up the drive shaft and watch it turn. Check out my other things to find the drive shafts and axle housings.

I have extra hardware for those that are interested in purchasing the bearings, screws, magnets, and 3mm shaft. Just email me.

Odile The Swan

Odile is a character from the ballet "Swan Lake". She is the daughter of Von Rothbart, the evil sorcerer who turned the Princess Odette into a swan. Odette has a champion in Prince Siegfried who is in love with her, but Odile is sent by her father to seduce Seigfried, so he will forget his love for Odette. Odile is commonly known as the Black Swan, but of course, you can print her any colour that you like.
There is a lack of 3D printable swans and definitely those that can be printed without supports - so I made one. Full size she is about 8cm high but scales well. The small dark blue Odile was printed using a beta LittleRP resin printer (http://www.littlerp.com/) with MakerJuice (http://www.makerjuice.com/)
For scale, the little Odile is sitting on a US quarter and is next to a British 10 pence piece.
Odile was modeled in Blender.

A 3D model of Tesla's new pickup "Cybertruck"

It is Modeled so you can install Red and White 5mm Led's under the
"Hood" (accessible from inside the car ) and in the trunk.

Supports should be set to "from build platform only" but you'll need to place custom supports for the headlight slot.

Please send pictures if you made one and give me tips on how to improve the model!
Feel free to doante: paypal.me/Wallerstedt1

Thanks!

CR-10 / Ender 3 Direct Drivinator

Long bowden tubes suck! This was even more apparent after installing a volcano clone heater block on my printer. You need precise control of the filament to keep blobbing in check.

Try this experiment- print out one of the many manual extruder knobs here on Thingiverse and install it on your extruder. Make sure the filament is fully inserted in your nozzle, and cool down your hot end. Once it is cool and the filament is fully fused into your hot end, turn the extruder knob back and forth and see how much the filament can move at the extruder with no movement at the hot end. The longer your bowden tube, the worse this is.

After looking through Thingiverse for a decent direct drive conversion for my CR-10 and not finding anything I liked, I decided to model my own. This fits on a stock CR-10 using the original style hot end (I am using the Micro Swiss all metal hot end).

My design goals were-
Cost as near to ZERO dollars as possible
Easy and clean installation
A strong and solid mount
Clear view of the hot end during printing

To those with concerns about adding mass to the X axis carriage- I say this: On an i3 style printer, It is irrelevant! Even with the big full size Nema 17 motor on the X carriage, it still weighs less than the y-axis- especially on a big printer like a CR-10. For comparison, my complete x-axis carriage assembly is 559g, a CR-10 glass plate alone is 1kg. Once you add in the heat bed, y carriage, etc, it's easily 2kg. And to make matters worse, the bigger your print, the more mass your y axis gets. Last I checked Cura 4.0 doesn't offer separate X and Y speed/acceleration/jerk setting, and definitely doesn't scale settings as the print increases in mass. If you are a speed junky, get a core-xy or delta printer.
